Q: Do you still experience moments of surprise when discovering new things, or has your experience changed the way you look at objects?
A: I'm still surprised, again and again. Recently, in the basement, I found a box of beautiful ceramic tiles. They're from GOLEM, and I had completely forgotten I even had them. I was as thrilled as I was back then. My enthusiasm doesn't depend on grand presentations, often it's something small: a piece of ceramic, a brush – but sometimes it's a whole collection.

Q: What does a perfect moment inside the store look like for you – a customer discovering something, a conversation, or simply the atmosphere of the space?
A: It's a combination of everything. I really like talking to people: customers, friends, and acquaintances. I don't like selling things. I like being in the space, thinking, moving through it. I'm always thinking about what we can change and do next, how we can show respect to this great spatial experiment that is our store.
"I just like being there and getting feedback from people. That's a great motivation too. I don't want to rest."

Q: What do you think allows certain objects to become part of someone's life rather than just something they own?
A: That's really beyond my reach, and that's okay with me. I'm not fazed by how people choose to use the things they buy here. My hope is simply that they integrate them into their life in a meaningful way. A customer once told me he uses the Log Bowl by LOYAL LOOT, made of reclaimed Canadian wood, as a bowl for his dog's food. What can I say?
Q: How can we learn to become more attentive consumers in a world where we are constantly surrounded by images and choices?
A: We just have to take a moment and be willing to look beyond the surface. I always say it's more about the product than the brand. Demanding a story behind the things we buy is a great way to start.

Q: You have chosen to develop your work in Berlin rather than expand into many cities. What does this city give to your practice?
A: I love Berlin. I'm not getting tired of this city, even though it also gives me a headache. But above all, it gave me the opportunity to find this outstanding space at Potsdamer Strasse 81. We have a lot of international clients who, luckily, still like to travel to Berlin despite all the complexities. I prefer to stay focused on Berlin, with my team in store and our regular customers. It's simply a very good match, and it makes more sense to invest in these relationships, internally and externally, than to lose ourselves across different store locations.

Q: Where do you go in Berlin when you want to switch off?
A: I always say this, and I probably sound like a broken record: Tiergarten. A walk through Tiergarten is my sanity. It is absolutely underrated.
