Q: Ryoko draws inspiration from Shinto practices, in which scents play a sacred role in rituals and in connecting with nature. How are these spiritual practices reflected in your fragrances, and how can scents support us in our daily lives?

A: Shinto teaches us a central principle of our practice and creativity: a deep respect for nature, which brings us both pleasure and vital energy, as well as moments of awe and humility reminding us that we are simply a part of it. At Ryoko, we implicate Shinto belief into each and every one of our natural products in the most natural and respectful way. Be it a plant essence, a resin, a wood, or a handmade ceramic - everything in our environment is imbued with Shinto.

Q: Berlin seems to change people who spend some time here. How has Berlin shaped you as founders and as individuals, and what does community mean to you in this city?

A: We both came to this city over 15 years ago, when it was still quite rough but full of potential. That energy inspired us, and Berlin gave us the opportunity to grow and helped shape who we are today. It taught us that every action, including where we spend our money, carries a sense of intention and support.

"Nowhere else could we have received such open, vibrant, and genuinely interested feedback for what we share - in a constant exchange, learning from one another."

Q: Where do you go in Berlin when you want to unwind and relax, whether through art, food, entertainment, exercise, or by learning something new?

A:For inspiration, we love to watch contemporary dance, while the taste that satisfies us and the place we always come back to is Sasaya. Yorck Kinos, Movimento, or Sputnik for films. Goldadelux for the sabih plate, the best pulled beef bun, and the most delicious french toast in the city.
